Taariq… The producer that makes beats in the morning.

February 16, 20169 min read

He calls himself Taariq the MorningStar…

We sat down with ABOG’s very own Donte Taariq to see what he has in store for this year. It seemed like the perfect time to see what the florida based artist will do with helping ABOG grow, his own music and further productions for his first artist Young Hoffa . Taariq has been writing poetry since 03 and started writing songs in 07 at the age of 17. Now today at 25, Taariq has learned music theory and has mastered his own sound with the ability to be fully involved in the production of his music. We have seen him grow as a musician and an overall artist. We are very proud to call him one of our founding Aborigines for ABOG.

BaariBoy: Its good to have you here at headquarters! We are really making progress with the culture and we are glad to have you on board.

How is life? Are you working on anything new and what are your goals for this year?

Taariq: It’s great to be here as always… It’s like a dream come true seeing everything move forward with ABOG and I hope we find some amazing artist throughout this year. As of right now I have been just focusing on finishing my bachelors but just know I’m still creating bomb ass music. (laughs). Hoffa and I have some projects that we have been working on for about 2 months. Right now we are just plotting on the marketing.  To be real with you, my goals this year are the same as last years and that is make my dreams come true. Im always striving to become a better me and I feel that I’m doing a pretty good job!

“Im always striving to become a better me and I feel that I’m doing a pretty good job!”

BaariBoy: Thats dope. Mad respect! So I know that you have been making beats since 2013 and no lie the beats you have out now are OG af! How do you have the inspiration to keep finding new sounds and new songs to write about?

Taariq: Haha I appreciate the love! To be honest with you it just got to the point where I dont think about it, I just do it. I try to buy as much sounds I can to keep me always inspired to create something that sounds like nothing I ever made before. I like to listen to soundtracks from shows and games I played or watched in the past sometimes for sampling beats. I love nostalgia, it makes me feel so human and I really reflect that in my sound. As far writing sounds I just really embrace life and let things happen, I always reflect on life when its necessary. The best part about art is that your emotions in a moment can create an eternal message.  This is why music is so sacred to me.

“I love nostalgia, it makes me feel so human and I really reflect that in my sound.”

DonteBaariBoy: You definitely have a laid back vibe to most of your tracks yet they still hit really hard. Who are some of the influences on your sound and what artist do you like out now?

Taariq: Well when I was young I liked soul music and Neo Soul. Some artist that really left an impression on me were Musiq Soulchild, Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, D’Angelo and Bilal just to name a few. Most of the kids today wouldn’t know these artist because you know, soul music isn’t main stream. I still try to incorporate soul chords to my trap and rap based drumlines. When I’m in my zone they come out really good. Artist today… I really like Tory Lanez and Post Malone, I feel like they are really opening up for the new age kids to show what our culture is all about.

BaariBoy: So you are going by the stage name Taariq but appears that your producer name is Morningstar. What do these names mean to you and why not just use one name?

Taariq: Well Taariq is my middle name and it is also my Uncle’s name. My dad always speak very highly of my uncle and how he always strived to be like him. That was is older brother and he admired him as a teen. My dads praise for my uncle made me more intrigued with my middle name and it was somewhat of a confidence booster when I referred myself as Taariq. Ultimately, I decided would be stage name because as an artist what Taariq stands for is everything I am and want to be. Taariq is expressive, harmonic, charismatic, and you know women really like his stuff.  MorningStar is a name that came with Taariq. I found out that the translation of my middle name meant morning star and it was a name that I really could relate to. When I first started making my beats I had to wait to my mom fell asleep, so I would start early in the morning like 3 AM.  I always would say in the morning angels gave me inspiration for songs.

“Taariq stands for is everything I am and want to be. Taariq is expressive, harmonic, charismatic, and you know… women really like his stuff.”

BaariBoy: So speaking of women… Not to ruin your game but I heard you are a daddy to be! Congratulations. How are you feeling and how much has this experience influenced your music?

Taariq: Haha, Baariboy you silly for that! But yea man it is a bitter sweet feeling. When I first found out I was mad and I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect. My daughter will be born next month and to be honest with you I’m still kind of nervous but God got me and I know I will be ok. In regards to my music, this experience with me embracing the fact I’m about be a parent has been a real good look for my sound. I have a couple of songs for Amora on my album, when she gets old enough, she will be able to hear the love I had for her since the beginning.

“When I first found out I was mad and I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect. My daughter will be born next month and to be honest with you I’m still kind of nervous…”

BaariBoy:  Once again we really appreciate your time. We wish you much success on your journey as an artist. When can we expect some of your new material?

Taariq: My pleasure its all love. I am working on my album ‘MorningStar’ now. I expect to be done around the time my daughter is born. I am also working with some collaborative EP’s and mixtapes with Young Hoffa. Hopefully when ABOG takes off I will have more artist to make beats for!
