On Saturday, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign surprised their fans by dropping a new album called Vultures 2. The album came out after several delays and has received mixed reviews. While some people love the 16-song project, others feel it could be better. Recently, the Yeezy website announced that “updated songs will be published in real time.” It remains to be seen if this will address the criticisms.
But the music itself isn’t the only thing causing a stir. Geoff Barrow from the band Portishead accused Kanye and Ty of using a sample from his band’s 2008 song “Machine Gun” without permission. He shared his frustration on social media, saying, “For f*ck’s sake, not again.”
Another artist, Swsh, who is from Los Angeles, also claimed Kanye and Ty used their work without clearing the sample first. Swsh found out about it after the album’s release but didn’t seem too upset over the mix-up. Fans, however, urged Swsh to seek financial compensation.
Fans of Geoff Barrow are also pushing him to take action, with some advising him to sue Kanye and Ty. One person commented that using the entire song as a background track showed “zero creativity.”
