Exclusive Interview With Pittsburgh Artist “Janiece

Written By Lamar Coaston Jr.

We caught up with the talented multifaceted Pittsburgh artist “Janiece” shortly after returning from Florida putting the finishing touches on her debut EP. We asked Janiece about her “Journey” and what inspires her to do what she does. Here she takes us through a day in the life of one of the world’s next “Supastars” in music.

ABOG: So who is “Janiece” and what inspires you to create Music?

Janiece: I am a 24-year-old woman who is completely in love with music and always have, since I was a little girl. Music was always something I wanted to pursue but I was afraid to get my feet wet knowing that it’s a very competitive industry. Every new path I start turns into music as if it’s my destiny or will point me towards it. Therefore, I figured I’d give it a shot.

ABOG: Where did your “Musical Journey” begin?

Janiece: It started as a little girl. I was about 4 years old and my aunt Niecy’s fiancé was a DJ. I remember my cousins and I were jumping on his bed as his music played through the loud speakers. The speakers were so loud I felt comfortable enough to sing along to the song “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” at the top of my lungs. My aunt came into the room & turned the music down asking me to keep singing and I did. After that day I realized I had a voice and I was now confident enough to sing along to music around others.

ABOG: So it’s safe to say, music is your passion?

Janiece: Absolutely, I cannot go very long without it. Music is always on my mind and if not, it will find its way back to me.

ABOG: Besides music, what are your other interests?

Janiece: I love to do hair, dance, and cook.

ABOG: Who would you say are your favorite artist(s)?

Janiece: Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Jasmine Sullivan, H.E.R, Trey Songz, Drake, J. Cole, Jhene Aiko, Meek Mill, Lauren Hill, And Erykah Badu. There are plenty of other artist I love. Those are just the first ones to come to my head.

ABOG: What were the reasons behind writing some of the songs for this EP?

Janiece: I’ve been going through a lot of trauma as a young adult & needed to express it. I would spend late nights writing rants when I was angry, sad, happy, etc. so I figured I’d start writing songs.

ABOG: What advice would you give aspiring artists who want to pursue a career in the “music business”?

Janiece: Always carry your hard drive with you. You’ll never know when you’ll need it.

ABOG: If you could pick one artist to work with, known or unknown, who would that be?

Janiece: Chris Brown. He is an amazing artist who has an ability to master any sound that he is going for. Versatility is key.

ABOG: People would be surprised to know that

Janiece:  I am shy and afraid to face negative energy therefore, I come off as a guarded person.

ABOG: Thanks for gracing our presence with your beautiful spirit, ABOG wishes you much success on this and future projects!
