Last Suspect in Young Dolph’s Murder Agrees to Plea Deal

Four years after Young Dolph was killed, the last suspect involved is taking a plea deal.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, Fox13 Memphis shared that Cornelius Smith, 36, admitted to being one of the shooters who killed Dolph outside Makeda’s Cookies in Memphis on Nov. 17, 2021, and agreed to a plea deal.

Smith plans to plead guilty, but before that, they need to decide where he will serve his time with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Smith’s court date to plead guilty is set for March 30.

Three men, including Cornelius Smith, were caught and faced trial for their part in the rapper’s death. In 2024, Smith admitted he and Justin Johnson did the shooting and expected $40,000 each. Smith testified against Johnson, saying they were hired by Big Jook, Yo Gotti’s late brother, to kill Dolph.

Justin Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and being a felon with a gun, and was given a life sentence in 2024. Hernandez Govan, accused of being the mastermind on Big Jook’s orders, was found not guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy last August.
